FAQ

What is an Education Foundation?

An Education Foundation is an organization comprised of community members who recognize that as education has become more important and more complex, there is a need to develop a means to raise funds for innovative and effective programs that improve student achievement and foster lifelong learning.

What will the Foundation do?

The Torrance Education Foundation, TEF, is committed to funding STEM programs or projects for teachers and students District-wide.

How does the Torrance Education Foundation operate?

TEF is comprised of an at-large Board Of Directors who work on committees, organize events and coordinate volunteers. An Executive Board of Officers is elected bythe Board at-large each year. The Executive Board oversees the operations of the organization in partnership with the Executive Director. All elected members of the TEF board are volunteers who serve without compensation.

Will the Foundation affect the school budget or my taxes?

No. All monies raised and spent by TEF will be donations from the business community and public at large.

How can the City of Torrance and the community at large benefit from the TEF? I have no children. The schools do not affect me.

We all have a stake in ensuring the best education for our children. The quality of a school system is an integral part of any community’s success. The school system affects property values, the attractiveness of the city for new business and industry and the general quality of life.

We all benefit from improved schools and exceptional educational opportunities for students.

How do I contribute to the TEF, either with time or money?

The TEF website has both a donation link and instructions for getting involved with the organization. For additional information, call (310) 972-6418 or email info@TorranceEducationFoundation.org.

TEF is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization and all donations are tax-deductible.
